Welcoming Congregation Committee: Introduction

The Welcoming Congregation Committee (WCC) is committed to maintaining First Parish Brewster's unique status as the first church in the Unitarian Universalist denomination to be officially recognized as a congregation intentionally welcoming lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) people.

The WCC works not only to affirm, but celebrate LGBT life and to achieve full human and civil rights for all persons regardless or their sexual or gender orientation or expression. Educational programs, political and social activism, fund raising, outreach and social events are but a few of the ways WCC helps achieve these goals.

Whether gay or straight, bisexual or transgender, the committee encourages you to contribute your passion, ideas and talents by joining us every 2nd Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM in FPB/ The Barn. Room 1

Transgender/Transsexual Discussion and Support Group Meetings

The Transgender/Transsexual Discussion and Support Group meets every 2nd Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM in Winslow House.

TG/TS, their friends, families, ALL ALLIES, are welcome!

In April, August, and November, there are special "family nights" with a special potluck supper from 6 to 7 PM prior to the meeting.

		"Freedom for all! Rights for all!" Indeed that has been our motto, for 33 years. The Unitarian Universalist Association has had a long standing and deeply held commitment to support full equality for bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender people.
In 1996, we turned our attention to support for the legalization of same sex marriage. About a third of the marriages I perform are for gays and lesbians. It is heartbreaking that we as a country, one that stands for equal protection under the law, do not offer these individuals the same protection for their love and commitment that heterosexual couples so easily afford. It is with great enthusiasm, and overwhelming support, that I affirm and advocate for any legislation that would provide equal protection and benefits to gays and lesbians when they marry that is currently only given to heterosexuals couples."
