Denominational Affairs

From: Ballou Channing District
The Annual Program Fund
will bring in $7,018,739 this year to support programs of our UUA: i.e. congregational services, social justice outreach, professional ministry, Life-Span education, the UU World, Skinner press and all 20 UUA Districts.  In the case of our Districts, each receives back a grant based on 11% of its APF total contribution.  This fine network touches the lives of all 220,992 adults and children, whether we belong to a small, large or mid-sized congregation.  So thank you if your society is Fair Share- contributions of $54 per member.  For our District services, the annual contribution is $19 per member.  If you are not Fair Share, then please think ahead to next year and increase it by 20% and become a "Merit Society".

UUSC
Fair Trade
:  Supporting fair trade is central to UUSC's commitment to strengthening human rights and dignity for workers in the global economy.  Fair trade is a set of principles and practices that more equitably distributes wealth and provides producers and farmers with a living wage.  Support Fair Trade by purchasing coffee, chocolate, tea and nuts.  Sold every Sunday after services.
Did you know?  $162 of the $600 economic-stimulus check you will receive later this year would have gone directly to fund the Iraq war?  Why not make a symbolic statement?  Reject the $162 war-related money and contribute those fund to UUSC peacemaking efforts.
Civil Rights Story Distributed Throughout Egypt:  Arabic and Farsi translations of the Montgomery Story, also known as the Story of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, were produced by our Civil Liberties Program partner HAMSA, with support from UUSC.  It tells the story of the nonviolent struggle for civil rights in the United States, which many believe has the potential to inspire young people in Egypt, Iran, and other Arabic and Farsi speaking countries around the world.  Recently the Egyptian government approved the release of the publication, permitting distribution across the country.
Civil liberties are the universal rights and freedoms that protect individual citizens from abuse by government power.  UUSC partners with civil-liberties organizations and civil=society groups working to defend freedom and rights by strengthening individual liberty and democratic processes comprised by the so-called Global War on Terror.
UUSC Membership, and a chance to win a human rights experience!
When you join or renew your membership at the $100 level by June 30, 2008, you will be entered in a raffle for a spot for yourself or a loved one on a 2008-2009 JustJourney!  The winner will only be responsible for getting to the JustJourney destination, most likely Guatemala or Mexico.  JustJourneys are unique educational travel experiences that focus on human-right and social-justice issues.  Participants must meet UUSC program partners and other human-rights and social-justice issues.  Participants meet UUSC program partners and other human rights defenders to become more inspired, informed, and effective human-rights activists.
Any student or youth member ($10 by 6/1/08) will be entered in a raffle for a spot on 08-09 JustWorks camp! Short term projects that help volunteers examine and understand causes and effects of injustice by working directly with people in US communities and experiencing social justice struggles first hand..
