Women's
Circle Alliance-- This
group meets regularly on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the Parish Room.
The May 14th program will be "Put some MYSTERY into your summer --and all
seasons' reading. Anne Speyer, former high school English teacher and currently
a teacher of community education courses, will offer clues for finding good mystery
and detective stories. All are invited to come to one or all of our monthly
meetings held in the Parish Room beginning at 1:00 with social time and program
at 1:30 p.m.
Humanists
of First Parish will
meet on May 18th at 3 p.m. in the Parish Room. Three outstanding theologians will
discuss the topic What Is a Christian?
The participants in the panel discussion
are: The Rev. Lawrence Stone, Interim Minister, Wellfleet Methodist Church,
The Rev. Kent Moorhead, Retired Minister, Orleans Methodist Church, and The Rev.
Erik Wikstrom, Sr. Minister, First Parish Brewster. Please join us for a
stimulating discussion. Light refreshments will follow the meetings.
Mondays
With the Mystics Continuing
last year's very successful program, Rev. Erik is once again facilitating an on-going
weekly encounter with some of the great mystics of the Christian traditions.
No need to sign up. No way to prepare. Just come to the Winslow House
on Mondays at noon with an open heart.

COMMON
VOICES WOMEN'S CHORUS Benefit
for the Wampanoag Homes for 7 Generations Concert
Friday, May 16th at 7:30 p.m. Suggested donation: $10 Back
for the 7th year at First Parish, Common Voices is directed by Jane Lowey.
We learn by "ear", and are dedicated to the idea that ALL people can sing.
We gather songs from many cultures, including Ghana, Middle East, African American
gospel. South Africa, Jewish, and some from closer to home! Please join
us, as we share our songs and our hearts. (You'll recognize many FPB members in
the chorus!)
Why did the
chicken cross the street? How many Unitarians does it take to change a light
bulb? Learn the answers to
these and other important questions here at first Parish on Saturday evening,
May 10th at 6 p.m. "LAUGHING
TOGETHER" is your invitation
to gather with friends in the Fellowship Hall for food and merriment! For
no good reason at all, we will share a potluck dinner, some good conversation
and a bundle of laughs. *** The
price of admission is a JOKE. All
attendees are required to bring a joke (keep them clean, if you please!) and
a covered dish. Prizes will be awarded for best and worst and everything in between!
Sign ups are required and seats are limited, so please sign up soon at the counter
on Sundays.
Cape Cod
Community Daré Everyone
is once again invited to the monthly community Daré (pronounced Dar-ray)
to be held at Chuck Madansky's and Wilderness Sarchild's on Sunday, April 27th,
from 1-9 pm Daré is an African Shona word meaning a sacred gathering for
healing purposes. A welcoming of Spirits and intergenerational event geared
towards the children will begin at 2 p.m. A group sharing circle begins
at 4 p.m., focusing on how we can help sustain one another and bring healing to
ourselves, our families, our communities and our world. At 5:30 p.m. is
a group hands-on healing circle. At 7:15 p.m. is a dream circle. Folks
may participate in meditation, sauna, fire circle, drumming, dancing, singing,
discussion, nature walks, swimming, and different forms of group or one-on-one
healing work. All ages are welcome and there is no charge. Bring food
and drink (no alcohol, please) to share, a towel. and
appropriate clothing for the sauna, warm clothes for outdoors, light clothes for
indoors, and musical instruments. Come or leave anytime between 1 and 9

Compassionate
Communication Workshop Nonviolent
Communication based on the work of Marshall B. Rosenberg and the Center for Nonviolent
Communication (www.cnvc.org) helps people connect compassionately with themselves
and one another; it awakens empathy and honesty, and is sometimes described as
"the language of the heart". Saturday Afternoons: 4-5:30 p.m. at Winslow House Session

Art
Exhibit in the Parish Room Please
be sure to see the art exhibit in the Parish Room starting May 11th and continuing
to June 8th: Paintings and Drawings by Santino Governale (father of FPB member,
Sandra Woodson). Most are for sale, and 10% of the sale's price will
go to First Parish. Biographical information about this lifelong artist
will also be hanging in the Parish Room.
The
End Torture Now Committee of FPB (and
beyond) will be meeting on May 3rd from 10- 11:30 in the addictions ministry/library
room. Everybody is invited! We are meeting to plan our action steps for
this spring/summer. Some actions that we are considering are: a vigil, special
event with guest speakers, the showing of a play, some type of service, a walk…
and we would love to get more people involved. If you believe that torture
is a violation of basic human rights, and want to work towards ending torture
